Happy Birthday, My Husband

Dear Husband,

This weekend is about you, not blogs.

This weekend is about you, not grading my students’ work.

This weekend is about you getting a day you will enjoy without worrying if you are being selfish.

This weekend the family is home, so we celebrate early.

May you enjoy being with us.

May you enjoy some of your favorite foods with the people who love you most and know you best.

We are your history.

We are who you hand to the Lord at the end of your life.

We are your responsibility.

It is our hope that we are also your joy.

We are not easy, but that is because you know us so well…more than you know others at work or church.

We are messy, but that is because we have to be so careful “out there” and it is impossible to hide our true selves 24/7.

We are not perfect, but we are yours, and it is we who love you.

Be blessed in your next year of life.

Be blessed in work, play, health and faith.

Be blessed as a man, provider and leader.

Be blessed as a husband, father and son-in-law.
