Summer Snippet 1: Have I lost some wonder?

Do we boast in the Lord?

Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”    (1 Corinthians 1:31)

If not, why not?

Perhaps Jesus is not our treasure yet.

This past Tuesday, an amazing event occurred at our church. CARSON WEITNAUER presented the first of four sessions on evangelism entitled, Light on the Front Porch. (Join us if you can!)

Carson shared an observation that people tend to boast about what they treasure. For example, we boast unabashedly about things like grandchildren, career aspirations, our vacations, etc.

Jesus is my treasure, but I am asking God to move me even further toward Jesus being my all-consuming joy so that boasting in the Lord is as natural as boasting about my children, for example.

Carson talked about how God sent His Son to die on the cross for us.

This information is common. Has it become too common?

I spent the next day with my son, imagining God asking me to sacrifice him for the sins of the world.

My son is precious to me. How could I sacrifice his life?

So I shared with my son what was on my mind.

  • Mom, I would die for you, he said.
  • Yes son, I would die for you too. But this isn’t about us dying for each other, this is about me or you sacrificing the other.

Both of us faltered at that thought.

I just keep looking at my son this week thinking, God sacrificed His precious Son while I was His enemy, so that I can go to heaven.

Some of the wonder of my salvation is coming back. I pray the same for you.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Picture Explanation: This young man is now 15 and I love him so much there are no words.

Planting and Watering

I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes growth.

1 Corinthians 3:6
